Lance Stroll (Did not start): 5/10
Has Fernando Alonso managed to break another team mate? It’s hard not to think that the Aston Martin’s chassis wasn’t the only thing to come out of Singapore in pieces. Judging from practice where he was P14 in both the second and third sessions, Lance Stroll knew he was under pressure to make the first cut in qualifying: and as a consequence he pushed too hard and ended up in a brutal impact with the barrier that forced the team to to withdraw him from the race. Stroll’s certainly been in the wars this year and it’s starting to look like he’s not having much fun anymore. He might have the safest seat in F1 for as long as he wants it, but how much longer will that prove to be?
Yuki Tsunoda (Puncture, Lap 1): 5.5/10
Not long ago things were looking sunny for Yuki Tsunoda compared with his first team mate of the year Nyck de Vries. But suddenly there are worrying dark skies overhead for the Japanese star, and he’s been put in the shade by the arrival of Liam Lawson who has ended up outperforming him in all three of their races together. Singapore could have put Tsunoda back on track, and he was quicker than Lawson in two of the three practice sessions before topping the red-flagged first round of qualifying. Unfortunately he hit traffic in Q2 and then made a mistake on his second run that left him without a time. And then when the race started he clashed with Sergio Perez, and the damage was serious enough to bring him to a rapid halt. A disappointing and exasperating experience for Yuki.
