Oscar Piastri went quickest in the sole practice session for the Qatar Grand Prix.

Piastri was 0.058 seconds ahead of his McLaren teammate, Lando Norris who leads the championship by 24 points.

The penultimate grand prix of the year is a sprint weekend, with an extra eight points available for a sprint victory, making a total of 33 points on offer for the winner including Sunday’s grand prix.

Fernando Alonso was third quickest, 0.386 seconds behind.

Max Verstappen finished sixth, with Lewis Hamilton 12th.

Qualifying for Saturday’s sprint race takes place from 2:30 p.m local time (5:30 p.m. GMT).
